Alaina Housley was 18, a freshman at Pepperdine University.
“Our hearts are broken,” said a statement put out by an aunt and uncle, actress Tamera Mowry-Housley and husband Adam Housley. “We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline Bar in Thousand Oaks.
“Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her, and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner.”
At about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, one of Housley’s suite-mates tweeted that she was missing. Pepperdine University announced that one student who was at the bar during the shooting was unaccounted for, and it later issued a statement confirming Alaina Housley’s death.
“Our hearts are broken with the news of this profound loss,” the university said in a statement. “We offer our deepest condolences to the Housley family and ask that our community join us in keeping Alaina’s family, friends, and loved ones in their prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
In a tweet, Logan Hall, Pepperdine student and a KTLA-TV intern, described Alaina Housley as “an English major with dreams of studying law” and a member of the university’s mock trial team.
“She was only on this campus for a few shorts months, but she impacted the lives of so many around her,” Hall said in the tweet. “We are devastated.”
Alaina Housley’s parents, Arik and Hanna Housley, own the Ranch Markets in Napa and Yountville.
